TS (Transport Stream) is a container format created in 1995 by the Moving Picture Experts Group. Initially designed for broadcast, TS is used for video and audio transmission. The TS format is also the output format of video recorded on certain digital video cameras. Listed below are some of the programs that support playback of .ts files. In TS files, the video is compressed with the MPEG-2 Part 1 codec. Besides video, a TS file can also contain audio and metadata streams. TS files are used in broadcast systems such as DVB, ATSC, and IPTV.
